Indiscretion of an American Wife (1953)

Jennifer Jones, Montgomery Clift
Vittorio De Sica
Producer David O. Selznick and director Vittorio De Sica argued bitterly during the troubled production of this sad love story. Selznick wanted the film to be a slick, romantic feature, while De Sica, the master of Italian realism, wanted to portray a doomed relationship. Despite the friction behind the scenes, the film is considered by many to be a lost classic, boasting strong performances from Montgomery Clift and Jennifer Jones, as well as excellent camera work by De Sica's frequent collaborator, G.R. Aldo. (BW)
