Payoff in the Pacific (1945)

Documentary, War
More educational than propagandic or exploitational, Payoff in the Pacific was compiled at the end of World War II and was then, as it remains now, a thorough and fascinating overview of America’s wartime exploits in the Pacific Theater. Narrated by Captain Carl Zimmerman—a then unknown army correspondent who went on to great success in the American radio scene—the documentary follows the battles that followed the Japanese defeats at New Guinea, Guadalcanal and Central Pacific. Prominently featured is the famed General Douglas MacArthur, who is seen fulfilling his widely publicized promise to return in triumph to the Philippines, formerly the site of one of his greatest humiliations.
