In this WWII War Drama, directed by Vittorio De Sica (Bicycle Thief), Cesira (Sophia Loren) and her daughter, Rosetta (Eleonora Brown), flee from Rome when Allied forces attack the city. They find safety in a small village where both mother and daughter develop feelings for the charming Michele (Jean-Paul Belmondo). The dangers of war, however, are in close pursuit as Allied forces attack the village, forcing Cesira and her daughter to face the horrors of war. (BW)
